Me & Mum
Me & Mum was written and illustrated by the children and families of the Learning Together Playgroup (based out of Our Place, Carlton Learning Precinct). This book maps out a typical day – including chores, play and big feelings – all from the dual perspectives of a child talking about their mother, and a mother talking about their child. Reflecting the many languages the children and families in the Learning Together Playgroup speak, the resulting book features English, Arabic, Somali, Oromo and Indonesian. The art is as vibrant as the text – each page filled with expressive paintings, collages and line drawings.
The book-making workshops were facilitated by artists Viet-My Bui, Idil Ali and Sadia Dubow. This textured, colourful book is a genuinely moving portrait of family life.
